Dedicated to the 20^th anniversary of the first non-violent revolution in German history – the fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1989.  Available in three colourways following three key players of that time: Red for the UDSSR, blue for the USA and black for Berlin. The Berlin Wall is world wide the symbol of the Cold War – a sad historic happening that separated into two parts door to door neighbours of one city. Nearly thirty years, the residents of Berlin had to stand on the sidelines being restrained from their families and friends in the immediate proximity. As the wall fell on November 9^th, 1989, people happiness’ was accordingly huge.

As the 20^th anniversary of the fall comes along, we of New Balance decided to celebrate this happening with a SMU Project. Together with the makers of the Berlin Overkill Shop we are going to release in mid December the so called “Berlin Wall Pack 2009″. The decision to start collaborate with Robert and Thomas from Overkill came naturally: both are truly passionate “Berliner” and nonetheless runners of one of the best sneaker stores in entire Germany.

For this special project we took the 577 as the base-pattern. The sneaker – produced in Flimby UK – will be released in three different colourways: red, blue, and black. Each colour has a special meaning: red stands for the Russian occupation, blue for the Americans and black for the people of Berlin themselves. Another special feature of this sneaker will be the insole that is going to be printed with different graphics. All prints remind the Berlin Wall. Furthermore, Robert and Thomas have thought of some trickie giveaways that will be added to the shoe boxes. But we don’t want to steal the surprise once you open the box, so this is all we’ll tell for now.

The “Berlin Wall Pack 2009″ is part of the Global SMU Project by New Balance and will be released in a very limited edition. So, watch out and stop by at www.newbalancelive.com and www.overkillshop.com. We are pretty much sure these shoes will be sold out real fast!
