Sneak(er) Preview AW 2010

Newbalancelive.com is proud to publish the first insights of the new “Autumn / Winter 2010 Collection”. Till Jagla, the German Lifestyle Manager, gives us in the following interview an overview about some highlights of the next range of New Balance Europe.
NBlive.com: Thanks for taking some time to give us the first insights of the Autumn / Winter 2010 Collection. First of all, can you say some general things about the season A/W 2010 ?
Till Jagla: Of course, no problem. We continue with our tradition of looking to the past to help guide our future, the next range reflects a combination of where we´ve been and where we´re going. We´ve reintroduced iconic shoes from the past that remain true to their origins and we´ve pushed classic designs into the future by using materials and processes that are better for the environment. All over, this range truly reflects the heart of New Balance. It´s a balance of classic designs and modern materials. A balance of craftsmanship and imagination that always has and always will inspire iconic shoe designs.

NBlive.com: What themes will you be focused at?
Till Jagla: Obviously we still have the “Made in UK” story. Made in UK or better “Domestic Manufacturing” is getting more and more important for us and the consumers. “Made in UK” stands for quality! Probably the most expecting NB style is the original 1500! Beside that iconic we will have 4 colourways of the 577, 3 colourways of the 1300, 4 colourways of the 670 and 4 colourways of the 576.

Beside the “Made in UK” Story we will introduce a new 574 – the SONIC. The sonic is a futuristic take on our signature classics. Environmentally friendly, beautifully executed, and deconstructed in design, this new collection takes the iconic 574 and the classic 410. We´ve reengineered the shoes through a Sonic process of applying heat and pressure to form airtight and water sealed seams. The result is a lighter shoe, simplified with minimalist design.

Further we have the “Women´s Contemporary Classics”. Heritage court and running shoes re-imagined as minimalist style. Based on the 470 court shoes and 410 runner, the Contemporary Classic collection strips away the bulk from these classics to create athletic-inspired women´s sneakers in high quality leather and durable nylon.

These are the main stories in A/W 2010, but that´s not all – you will see many more new stuff.
NBlive.com: What about special packages? Have you planned to release some limiteds?
Till Jagla: No doubt about it – we´ll maintain the “Global SMU Project” – Beside that we are going to release a very selective “Pub Pack”. The “Pub Pack” is a limited Edition based on the 576 and includes 3 colourways – The Kings Head, the Red Lion and the Royal Oak! The paying tribute to the time honoured tradition of whole heartedly enjoying life. For over 20 years this Flimby favourite has been “brewed” in England using the finest “ingredients” and “brewing techniques”.

NBlive.com: What´s your favourite style in the next collection?
My favourite is without a doubt the RC205. It´s a 90´s running shoe worn by Khalid Khannouchi and the Kenyan Team. The shoe number 205 is based on Khalid´s world record time 2:05. Due to the Maasai tribal on the heel the shoe brings a unique aesthetic to its functional design.

NBlive.com: Thanks for your time! We wish you all the best for 2010.
Till Jagla: you are welcome.
